About the Choir

Everything you need to know before joining us.

When do you meet?
When: Tuesday evenings

Arrival: 7.15pm - 7.30pm

Start: 7.45pm (prompt)

End: 10.00pm

During: School term times
How large is the choir?
We have a maximum of 50 members and limit our numbers because of space. We are filling our rehearsal space and we are also limited by the space available to perform at our various venues.
We currently have 43 members.
Can I just turn up and join?
You are welcome to attend a rehearsal or two if you are interested in joining us. This gives you the possibility of seeing how we work and if you would like to join us.
I cannot read music. Can I still join?
Although we do not hold auditions, we do expect members to be able to learn and sing in harmony with the choir. If after a couple of rehearsals you find you are not able to reach the notes or keep in harmony with those around you, perhaps we are not the best fit for you. Our rehearsal schedule is quite a challenge if you have never sung in a choir before. If our musical director feels you may not be able to cope with our programme, she will inform you and make suggestions.
How much do you charge?
As the group is self-financing, a fee is payable and will be collected on a 'termly' basis. We work on three terms in a year. Cost is £40 per term.
Where do you rehearse?
Ardleigh Green Family Centre
165 Ardleigh Green Road
Hornchurch
RM11 2LF

The Family Centre is on the corner of Ardleigh Green Rd and Michael Gardens - directly opposite All Saints Church.
What sort of music do you perform?
Our Repertoire
• Songs from the shows (old and new)
• Some Classical Music
• Medleys of popular songs
• Traditional and original carols at Christmas

Our programme includes at least two fixed "seasons" - Christmas Concerts and Summer Concerts and we perform each concert 3 times in different venues.

Techniques for Harmony:

Ingo

Listen Louder Than You Sing: Focus on balancing your voice with others, rather than singing as a soloist.

Blend Voices: Adjust your tone and volume to match the group, creating a cohesive sound.

Manage Vibrato: Reduce individual vibrato to ensure voices blend rather than clash.

Understanding Roles: Know your specific part (e.g., soprano, alto, tenor, bass) while being aware of how it fits into the overall chord structure.
